An estimated 90% of all emails are spam. Deleting them is a big time-waster. Spammers are getting ever more sophisticated and producing very plausible-looking messages which can fool even the wary.

Crucially many SPAM emails contain viruses or trojans which can really destroy your life. Basically this BBC page is a nice little list of reminders.

As a footnote some of the big email providers such as Google have excellent SPAM blockers built into them. However don't forget to check the Junk folder every so often!
MailWasher is a powerful email checker with SPAM elimination. This stops SPAM even getting to your computer by blocking it at your service provider. The service is free but you are invited to make a donation and you can upgrade to an better version by subscription.

If you really want to get the bit between your teeth you can report SPAM

Google advises - You can help stop spammers by also sending the full headers of these unlawful messages to the Federal Trade Commission at spam@uce.gov.

If you find that your emails are being blocked to some addressed you will need to know which organisation is blocking them. Click the link below to check the IP address of your computer against the global blocking lists. You can then contact them, find out why your email is being blocked and request them to remove your email address from their lists.
You can avoid being caught by online fraud but you need to know what to out look for. This A to Z of fraud created by the Police has many of the classic traps to watch out for. It also has lots of general tips for avoiding telephone and other type of fraud.

Probably this is only site you need to see and refer to on a regular basis

You can also report SCAM phone calls - but it may take some time as they can be busy. Remember to have the time they called and their number if it is available. (Dial 1471 immediately and the time and number will be read out to you.)
